Understanding Concierge, Self-Pay Mental Health Care
At Seagrass Integrated Mental Health, we use a concierge, self-pay model to provide thoughtful, individualized psychiatric care. This approach allows us to prioritize time, clinical decision-making, and continuity of care in a way that is often difficult to achieve within traditional insurance-based systems.

This page is designed to explain what concierge, self-pay mental health care means, why we have chosen this model, and how it may—or may not—be the right fit for you.
What Is Concierge Mental Health Care?
Concierge mental health care is a model in which patients pay directly for services rather than relying on insurance reimbursement. This allows providers to focus on delivering care that is personalized, unrushed, and responsive to individual needs.

In a concierge setting, appointment length, follow-up frequency, and treatment planning are guided by clinical judgment and patient goal - not by insurance requirements or billing limitations.
Why Some Practices Do Not Accept Insurance
Over the past several years, insurance-based mental health care has become increasingly complex. Prior authorizations, restricted visit lengths, limited coverage, and frequent policy changes can interfere with timely and consistent care.

Many psychiatric practices have found that the administrative demands of insurance participation reduce the time available for direct patient care and limit clinical flexibility. Moving to a self-pay model allows providers to focus on evaluation, treatment, and follow-up rather than documentation designed primarily for reimbursement.
How a Self-Pay Model Supports Individualized Care
A concierge, self-pay approach allows for:
-
Longer initial evaluations that focus on understanding your full history and goals
-
Flexible follow-up scheduling based on clinical need rather than preset insurance intervals
-
Thoughtful medication adjustments with appropriate monitoring
-
Fewer rushed decisions and greater opportunity for collaboration
-
Consistency of care without disruptions related to insurance network changes

This model is especially helpful for individuals with complex presentations, medication sensitivities, or those seeking a more integrative, whole-person approach.
Insurance Changes and Continuity of Care
Insurance coverage and provider networks can change unexpectedly, sometimes resulting in gaps in care or the need to transition to new providers. A self-pay model offers greater continuity, allowing patients to maintain an ongoing therapeutic relationship without interruption due to insurance-related changes.

For some patients, the ability to continue working with the same provider over time is a key factor in choosing concierge care.

What Concierge Care Looks Like in Practice

At Seagrass Integrated Mental Health, concierge care is less about a specific set of features and more about how care is delivered day to day. I intentionally maintain a smaller patient panel so I can be present, responsive, and thoughtful in my clinical work.

Patients often value timely communication, flexibility when concerns arise, and the ability to address issues before they escalate. When something feels off, you don’t have to wait weeks for it to be acknowledged. Care is collaborative, unrushed, and adjusted based on what you actually need—not what a system dictates.

This approach allows for continuity, trust, and a therapeutic relationship that develops over time. My goal is for patients to feel supported, heard, and confident in their care, without feeling like just another appointment on a schedule.
Is Concierge, Self-Pay Care Right for Everyone?
Concierge mental health care is not the best option for every individual. Some patients prefer or require in-network care, and others may prioritize cost considerations above visit length or flexibility.

We believe that informed choice is essential. Our goal is to be transparent about how care is delivered so you can decide whether this model aligns with your needs, preferences, and circumstances.
Our Commitment to Transparency
At Seagrass Integrated Mental Health, we are committed to clear communication and straightforward pricing. Fees are discussed in advance, and we strive to avoid unnecessary appointments or services.

While we do not bill insurance directly, we can provide superbills for patients who wish to seek out-of-network reimbursement, depending on their insurance plan.
